These verses were the end of the Gospel lesson for Easter Sunday.  Pastor Todd, in his sermon, directed us to notice that the women who were at the tomb fled and said nothing because they were afraid.  He also directed (even challenged) us to read the ENTIRE gospel of Mark - to remember and better understand the whole life of Jesus and His work in the world and the people who gathered around him and the people he healed...

Apparently, the lack of telling others on Easter morning did not last - because here we are over 2000 years later, and we know the story.  We have heard different versions of it, we have language around what happened on that first Easter morning.  How is it that the story that was not told, became one of the most profound stories of our lives?

I think it is much like any profound story (especially one of good news) that is quickly spread throughout towns and groups of families and friends...The word is out - CHRIST IS RISEN (He is risen indeed).  The word continues to spread - and as we will hear in upcoming weeks, it is both exciting and dangerous...it makes us change our way of life.  It makes us change how we live.  And at the beginning for as exciting as it is - for many it is/was a dangerous declaration.  The power of God is at times confusing - yet so very exciting!

We (most of us) are in places where we can share the good news through word and deed in safety and comfort.  What is it that makes us afraid?  What is it that keeps us from telling the story?

Peace,
Pastor Erin
