A few of the “duties” that the Spirit is “tasked with”  - as paraphrased from Pastor Todd’s sermon from Sunday…

  • Comforting us with sighs too deep for words (Romans 8)
  • Involved with the conception of Jesus (Matthew 1:18)
  • Refiner  (Mathew 3:11b)
  • Speaking in tough situations (Mark 13:11)
  • As a sign of Joy and Hope (Luke 1:41)
  • As a conduit for prophesy (Luke 1:67)
  • A source of inspiration (Luke 2:26)
  • Taking the form of a flame (Acts 2:3)
  • Taking the form of a dove (Mark 1:10)
  • A “wiley bird” like the wind (John 3:8)
  • Being a gift from God (Luke 11:13)
  • Teacher (Luke 12:12)
  • Defense Attorney (John 14:26)
  • Proctor (Acts 1:2)
  • Breath (John 20:22)
  • Bestower (Acts 1:8)
  • A means of Choosing and Blessing (Acts 10:38)
  • Delegator (Acts 20:28)

I did not get them all here….(and Pastor Todd tells us he mentions only about half the list)

As we move into and through the Season of Pentecost (which is also referred to as “ordinary time” in the church year) we are invited to be aware of the Spirit moving in and through us.  Today we are participants in the kindom* of God (We are involved in the full diversity and relationship of all God’s children; we are, together, esteemed agents in God’s work on earth ).

The more we are able to watch and name and identify our interactions with the Spirit the more we can be aware of God’s work in and through us and rejoice in the gifts we are given.

Where is the spirit making God known in your life today?
