When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud
with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes, saying to him,
“Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see. - John 9:6-7
Isn’t it interesting that the man was told to go wash in the pool by the name of SENT. I am sure I did not make this connection when I was studying the text last week - but that we are healed by the mud of the earth and the “saliva” (or as Webster defines is - a watery liquid secreted into the mouth by glands, providing lubrication for chewing and swallowing, and aiding digestion) of Jesus. And then told to go wash in the waters of the pool. Go to the place from where you will be sent. Start with the knowledge that you will be sent. With the DNA of the Son of God to light your vision of the world.
What an incredibly firm foundation to start with the washing…
But in reality - isn't that our calling as people of Christ - that we start with our baptism - even if that is not until we are 80. When we are “lost” we go back to the beginning. When we are wandering we go back to the beginning, when we are confused we can go back to the beginning.
Maybe that’s another highlight of this lesson. Wherever we are, whatever we have been through - if we can go back to the beginning we will see the whole world in a different way.
May that Light of Christ guide you as you find new ways to see Christ in this time.
