“But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things.’” - Luke 10:41
This moment between Jesus and Martha feels so real. She is doing her best, preparing, serving, making sure everything’s just right, for the visit. But in all her doing, she’s missing the most important part: simply being with Jesus.
It’s easy to slip into the same pattern. We fill our days with tasks, worries, and distractions. Even the good things can leave us feeling stretched thin and disconnected. But Jesus gently reminds us, like He reminded Martha, that our presence matters more to Him than our performance.
Jesus is not scolding her. Jesus is inviting her to pause, to breathe, to sit, and just be near Him.
Maybe you need that reminder today too. That it’s okay to slow down. That you don’t have to have it all together. That Jesus sees you and simply wants to be with you.
What’s one thing you could let go of this week to make space for Jesus?
Peace to you, Pastor Erin
