“And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” - John 17:3
When we hear “eternal life,” it’s easy to think about something far off - something waiting for us, something in the future.
But Jesus defines it differently.
Eternal life is not just about the future. It’s about relationship - RIGHT NOW.
It is about knowing God, not just knowing “about” God. It is to live in that steady awareness that you are held, known, and not alone. (Which feels especially grounding after hard weekend like this past one, with the TLC annual meeting)
We gathered, made decisions, looked at where we’ve been and where we’re going. It is important work, Holy work. If we are honest, it is work that can sometimes pull us into fear about the future or pressure to get everything exactly right.
Maybe this verse can quietly re-center us. At the heart of it all isn’t the plans we make or the outcomes we hope for, but the knowing Christ whom God sent.
It’s this: Do we know God? Are we living like we are known by God?
Because that’s where life, real life, actually begins.
So here’s something simple for this week:
Take one moment each day to pause and breathe and remember. You are already in relationship with God. You have nothing to prove and nothing to secure.
Just notice it. Rest in it. Return to it.
That is eternal life - already unfolding.
Grace and peace, Pastor Erin
